Assembling an e-commerce website for an online furniture store
RJ Living is an Australian-owned luxury furniture brand. With all their products being designed in-house, they have a full range to fit out the Australian home. They approached Kaliber Studio to help expand their business with a move into the e-commerce marketplace, the goal was to create a user-friendly e-commerce website that reflected RJ Living’s modern, luxurious brand.
Our team worked closely with RJ Living to develop a e-commerce UI/UX that ensured the website was easy to navigate across desktop and mobile, with advanced product search functionality, clear product categorisation and conversion-optimised product pages.
A key consideration when designing a furniture e-commerce website, is allowing the products and photography to be shown in the best light, without the design overpowering the products. With SKU’s varying in physical size from a small vase to a king size bed, it was important to establish a design system that could accommodate objects of all sizes – a good solution to both demonstrate scale and show the product in use was to have a good mix of lifestyle and product photography integrated throughout the website design.
The e-commerce website was built within the Neto (Maropost) platform, providing the RJ Living team with a single interface to easily manage not only the website but also their product inventory, customers, orders and shipping.
One of the standout features of the website was the implementation of 360-degree imagery and in-home augmented reality (AR) capabilities. This allowed customers to visualise how the furniture would look in their own homes. This custom feature helped RJ Living stand out from their competitors, offering a unique and immersive online shopping experience.
With many online-shoppers using mobile devices, it was essential to create a custom mobile design, optimising the user experience. The focus here is ensuring it’s easy for users to find products both through searching, and an easy to use navigation, clearly displaying all categories. Once a user has found a product, there are often product variations to consider such as size and colour, these have been clearly designed as not not clutter the page, whilst giving prominence to the ‘add to cart’ button.
